"0810 GMT - the sun peeks over the horizon and just appears in a narrow clear slit in the blanket of
clouds. In anticipation, I framed this lone silver birch tree to break up the monotony of the horizon line and managed to shoot eight bracketed
shots in the single minute that the sun was visible, before the clouds closed again (this was the longest spell of clear sunshine
during the whole day!). A strong graduated grey filter helped make the bland cloud a little darker and moodier, and this combined with the
deliberate use of a relatively small aperture (f11) with the wideangle lens produced the 'starburst' flare for effect."
