Notes on web site images.
The web site images have been made as close as possible to the original transparencies in terms of colour, tonality and contrast, with the minimum of digital modification or enhancement (usually just brightness and/or contrast adjustment).

All images have been optimised on a colour-managed PC-based system with a monitor gamma of 2.2 and the web site optimised for Internet Explorer browser. The larger images are also of low resolution for speed of page loading.

Nevertheless, the apparent colour and quality of the images is naturally dependent on the graphics capability of the computer along with the quality and settings of the monitor on which they are viewed.

If your monitor can only support High Colour (16 Bit) or 256 colour, then images will probably show 'colour stains' instead of smooth tone gradation.

You may like to adjust your monitor for contrast and brightness. The greyscale below presents five and one-half shades of grey in both the black and the white areas.

The black block at the far left should merge with the black background, yet the second block of very dark grey should be only just visible as a bit lighter than black when viewed in zero ambient light.

The white block at the far right should appear white and should merge with the white background but the second block from right should be clearly visible.
